Quebraditas is a very ambitious project started by Edison Argote and his
partner in life and farm Angela. Their objective is to revitalize they farm which
has been experiencing slow growth for quite a number of years. The farm is
nestled in the mountains of Oporapa, Huila,. At altitudes reaching 1850
masl, this 18-hectare estate is committed to growing traditional and
experimental coffee varieties with an eye toward sustainability and sensory
excellence. Their approach includes organic inputs, strategic canopy
shading, and soil health management designed to optimize plant vitality and
bean quality.
Oporapa is a region that has not yet gained significant recognition in the coffee world, partly due
to infrastructure challenges and other factors. Edinson and Ángela started their journey on
Chorro Alto, a farm owned by Ángela’s parents. Ángela manages the administration, while
Edinson oversees coffee processing and farm operations. They also collaborate with two other
farms – one in La Plata (growing varieties such as Sidra and SL28) and another in the Argentina
region. Additionally, they purchase coffee cherries from San Adolfo.
Orange Bourbon is a visually striking mutation of the Bourbon family, distinguished by its bright
orange ripe cherries and increasingly cultivated in Colombia’s high-altitude farms. Valued for its
sweetness, structured acidity, and round mouthfeel, the variety thrives in elevations above 1,700
meters where slow maturation enhances sugar development.
When combined with the thermal shock process, Orange Bourbon reveals an even more
expressive profile. Thermal shock typically involves controlled fermentation—often anaerobic—
followed by a rapid temperature shift using hot and cold water to halt microbial activity and “lock
in” aromatic compounds. This technique intensifies clarity while preserving vibrant fruit
character. The result is a modern, high-impact profile that merges Bourbon elegance with
innovative Colombian processing expertise, making it increasingly popular in competition and high-end specialty selections.
